Traditionally the Royal Palace opens its doors to the general public a few days after the national holiday. A large and interested crowd can visit this imposing building, commissioned by Leopold II and completed in 1865. The public can also walk around the rooms, corridors and monumental staircases, and admire the priceless collections and decorative art originating from every continent. Obviously special attention goes to the party hall and the throne room. Their majestic proportions and the height of their ceilings with enormous bronze and crystal chandeliers are clear evidence of an age when Belgium was still the fourth-largest trading power in the world.
- from Friday 25 July 2008 to Sunday 7 September 2008 (except on: Monday)
- TUESDAY-SUNDAY : 10:30-16:30
Comment:
The new ceiling of the mirror room alone is worth a visit: the creator, Jan Fabre, made it from one and a half million wing cases of Thaï scarabs.
